Task Overview: The Creston Museum runs a small gift shop, featuring publications on local and regional history and related topics, souvenirs from Creston and Canada, and work by local artists and artisans. We are looking for someone to take on the role of purchaser for the 2018 season: review existing inventory, order stock that needs to be replenished, identify new products (local and otherwise), make contact with local suppliers, complete consignment documentation, etc., within the budget set by the Board of Directors. Our staff normally take care of point-of-sale data entry, pricing, and stocking shelves, but you are more than welcome to take a share of those tasks too, if you wish.
Job Type: Medium-Term (about four months)
Suitable for: Individuals/Pairs
Schedule: Very flexible. A couple of hours in the next few weeks to meet with us and review current inventory, then however many hours you are able to spend going through catalogues, networking with local suppliers, placing orders, etc. That can be done at any time between now and the end of April. We’d like to have all our stock in place by May 5, 2018.
Requirements: An eye for quality and value (we don’t have a lot of high-end merchandise, but we don’t want to offer cheap junk, either); contacts (or the willingness to build contacts) with local artists and artisans; some administrative skills and the ability to follow through on tasks.
