Creston MuseumDaily Dose of History, News & Articles Leave a Comment

You may have noticed that our “Daily Dose of History” posts haven’t been exactly daily, lately. That’s because, with the Museum open now (Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 – 4:00 if you hadn’t seen that yet), a series of summer programs that we’re finding ways to offer despite social distancing, and a couple of exhibit projects, we’re finding it a bit much to prepare daily blog posts, too. Nevertheless, when we have something interesting to tell you – or find something you seem interested in hearing – we’ll keep these stories coming!

So, here we go! Since last week’s post on the grain elevators seemed to get a fair bit of attention, let’s start with a very exciting announcement:

Inside the Elevator:

We are working with Kunze Gallery and Columbia Basin Trust (which owns the elevators) to offer special presentations, at and inside the downtown grain elevators, that explore the history of the local grain industry, the reclamation of the flats, and the operations of the grain elevators themselves. Through historic photographs, personal recollections of people who worked in the elevators, and an examination of the visible machinery, we’ll take you on an exploration of these iconic structures and their impact on the community.

  • Book a time slot exclusively for you and your guests – maximum six people per group, please, to ensure proper social distancing.
  • Wednesday through Saturday, starting at 10:00 AM or 2:00 PM
  • Presentations are by appointment only; while we will try to accommodate short-notice requests, advance booking is highly recommended.
  • Approximately 45 minutes, less than one block of walking; no stairs, but a slight slope.
  • $20 per group.
  • To book: 250-428-9262 or crestonmuseum@telus.net
